This concise statement has been the motto of the European Union since 2000.

The Flag of the European Union is not only a symbol of the EU; it also embodies European unity and identity.

It shows a circle of twelve golden stars on a blue background. The stars represent the values of unity, solidarity and harmony between the peoples of Europe.

The number of stars has nothing to do with the number of Member States. The circle, however, is a symbol of unity.

The European anthem is another symbol of the EU. It does not replace the national anthems of the Member States, but symbolises Europe's unity in diversity in the universal language of music.
