The aim at the time was to prevent war by controlling these industries, which were crucial to warfare, together.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5176b37 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5176b37\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>But the EU has evolved into a political union in which Member States cooperate in many different areas. It creates new laws, rights and obligations for all EU citizens and businesses: the extent of climate protection, resistance to Russia&#8217;s war against Ukraine, a right to parental leave for every employee, data protection on social media, etc. These are all rather controversial issues, where joint action is only possible if shared values and similar objectives provide guidance to political leaders on what is non-negotiable and what is feasible. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e2fdcca elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e2fdcca\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Isn't that the job of politicians?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31535a8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"31535a8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Defining these values and objectives, discussing and adapting them repeatedly is not the sole responsibility of politicians.
